Hello Cape Town

Matt waiting for flight out of Charleston to WashingtonFirst day in Cape Town with family after the long haul from Charleston, Washington, Dakar, Johannesburg and finally 24 hours later into Cape Town. Feel fine today – no jetlag. Just been taking it easy, hanging out at Hedge House, walking dogs in the park. This evening a bunch of folks will be over for dinner after Ben’s baptism later this afternoon. More pics tomorrow. My niece, GraceWalking the dogs in the neighborhood parkHedge House

Busy weekend

The Charleston, SC annual Water Missions International Walk for Water fundraiser was held in Cannon Park on Saturday morning, March 20th (happy birthday Dad!) The day couldn’t have been prettier and a large crowd turned out for the event. These are just a couple of images from the beginning of the walk, and many more images are posted on my photo website vanessak.com More information about Water Missions International and their work around the globe can be found at Watermissions.orgIn the evening, the James Island Christian School held their annual Auction fundraiser, and since both Leigh and Matt attended there for many years, I supported that as well, so it was a day dedicated to non-profits.

Fabulous Folly

We had scheduled an engagement shoot at Folly Beach this afternoon, not realizing that it was the annual Folly Pub Crawl and St. Patricks Day celebration. Anyway, we circumvented most of the craziness, and got some great pics of Ryan & Elisa. Congrats!!

Flight of the Bumble Bee

That’s what it felt like buzzing over Charleston in Jay’s R22 chopper. He sold his 4-seater (got tired of doing tours) and now just uses this 2-seater. It has been a pretty weekend, relatively speaking, although visibility today was nowhere near as great as yesterday. Just another lesson – seize the moment while you have it. Anyway it was a lot of fun. For more aerial images from Sunday’s adventure, visit www.vanessak.com

Just can’t resist a full moon rising …

This evening was perfect, clear, not cold, without a hint of a breeze – and no bugs. Must only happen about 1% of the time in Charleston. The moon was scheduled to rise at 6.37pm, and Nicole, Raymond and I were waiting for it on Tea Farm Creek. It was gorgeous. I think I’m going to stop trying to shoot a full moon rising – no image can ever do justice to the real thing.

Studio Work

Just got back from a studio workshop weekend in the small town of Richlands, NC, about 5 1/2 hours drive from Charleston. John and Teresa have a great studio there and some hugely creative techniques which I found very inspiring. We worked on lighting, photography as well as the business aspect of running a studio. Great stuff. This is one of my images of a couple who had scheduled an engagement session.
