Road trip to 100 Acre Farm, Madison, GA

If you’ve read this blog a couple of times through the years, you will have noticed that I LOVE road trips.  This weekend I had planned to spend more time at Hunting Island State Park in Beaufort, SC but the weather forecast necessitated a change of plan.  I decided to go where the sun was supposed to shine, and that was in the upstate or inland area of South Carolina or Georgia as it finally happened.  I remember passing this farm during a 2010 road trip along 278 on the way back from a wedding in Atlanta. I had stopped at the time, trespassed a little up the driveway and vowed to come back again to explore further.  This I did yesterday with my friend and road trip warrior, Linda.  What a gem of a place and what fun.  We walked the trails, enjoyed a hearty breakfast, met some great new friends, but most of all we were fascinated by the animals and critters, specifically the chickens.  How refreshing it is to spend even one night away from home, having fun and doing crazy stuff 🙂

The Annual Edgewater Park Bridge Run

Not to be outdone by the Cooper River Bridge Run that happens on the same day, our neighborhood hosts their version of the “Welcome to Spring in Charleston” exercise opportunity later in the day. The t-shirts could be confused with the real deal, except this is a 0.1km run; the length of the bridge over the Coburg Creek on the approach to Edgewater Island. It has become a highly anticipated annual event, and the focal point of much community preparation and entertainment. Here are a couple of images from yesterday’s event.  There were two heats; one for the 6 and unders, and the other for everyone else. The winners are usually kids who complete the run in under 10 seconds. Actually I believe the run serves merely as an opening act for the real deal which is the after party 🙂

Family Portraits: Four little girls

What a challenge but how worthwhile it was to spend a couple of hours photographing this family of four little girls. How smart of the parents to regularly document their progress as they grow up.  They change so quickly and who wouldn’t want to remember them like this!  They were so sweet and so enchanted with their newest sister. With Mom’s permission I can’t resist posting a couple of the images.

Back up in the Air

Winter is over and the marsh grass is turning green again.  I had been itching to get back up in the helicopter to take some new aerial shots – we have so much amazing material to work with in the Charleston area.  I didn’t realize quite how windy it was, so it got a little bumpy to say the least, but all’s well that ends well and although it was hazy in the distance, we got enough images to make the trip worthwhile.  Besides which, it really is a lot of fun.  Thanks Kyle!

Labs love a boat ride

I snapped this image last summer as we passed a skiff cruising through Shem Creek with this cargo of labs.  It was so typically Southern and so I’m posting it now as we anticipate another wonderful lowcountry summer.

Kids at Weddings

Sometimes the bride and groom have their work cut out not to be outshone by the kids in their wedding party.  We attended a family wedding this afternoon and I was not responsible for the photography, but I did have some fun focusing on the kids.  Of course, being my grandchildren, I am somewhat biased, but c’mon now, these are seriously cute kids.

Sunbeams on Steroids

I got going fairly early this morning to get downtown to the Joe Riley Stadium for the 10th Annual Walk for Water event, and this is what I saw as I looked left and right to exit my driveway.  Looks pretty cool in black and white imho 🙂

Scenes from Middleton Place

Spring is trying to emerge, but hasn’t quite made it yet, so when you feel like getting out and shooting something, sometimes you need to really scratch your head for inspiration. A friend and I decided to pay a visit to Middleton Plantation because even if there is nothing going on with bird life or horticulture, the farm area and the reenactments of how life was lived back then are fun to photograph.  Here are a couple of the images, including my friend Raymond trying his hand at milking a cow!
