Complete Change of Scenery

Well this is a huge shift from the shores of the Indian Ocean to the swamps of South Carolina. This morning I woke up early enough to be at Cypress Gardens by sunrise.  There was no sunrise because it was overcast, but the azaleas were still in bloom and it is a pretty place. 

Umhlanga Rocks, Durban

I’ve been preparing to head back home Stateside today, packing and wrapping up business here.  This afternoon we took some time to walk along the beach north of Durban, snap a few pics of the Umhlanga Rocks Lighthouse and breathe deeply the fresh salt air.  Until next time ….

Drakensberg Mountains of Royal Natal Park

Just returned last night from a few days at Thendela in the Northern Natal Drakensberg area.  It is the most beautiful place.  We saw lots of wildlife, birds, etc., walked and hiked for miles.  Now a few more things to take care of in Durban over the next week and I’ll be headed back home.

Running errands in Durban

Today we had errands to run all over the city.  Here are a couple of pics taken along the way.  We stopped at Mitchell Park for lunch, which is where this bottom pic of my mother was taken.  She used to swing me in the playground here when I was just a little thing!

For the Birds

My dad loved to watch the birds at the bird feeder, so when he came home from the hospital, my mom put his bed next to the window and hung the bird feeder right outside for him.  When it all comes down, it’s the simple things that give the most pleasure.

Best Buddies

It’s amazing and very touching to watch the bond develop between a dog and a child.  They communicate in a special language all of their own and it starts before the child can even crawl.
