Young Harris, Hiawassee, GA in the fall

A group of us girlfriends headed out on a road trip to upstate Georgia in the Appalachian Mountains. We rented a cabin for the last three nights and spent time exploring the area. These photos include views from Bell Mountain overlooking the Chatuge Lake and town of Hiawassee, a barn along a rural road, as well as images from a visit to Anna Ruby Falls in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Tomorrow we move on to Townsend, Tennessee. Most of the colorful leaves were blown away courtesy of Hurricane Zeta as it blasted up the Tennessee Valley a few days ago. Hoping to find some color lingering in the next few days.

Another Fine Georgia Weekend

Last weekend I spent in the Georgia mountains, and this weekend it was the Georgia coast. A friend invited me down to Jekyll Island and showed me all around this unique piece of coastal heaven. I had visited many years ago, but had come away disappointed, not knowing where I should have spent time and feeling that I had wasted it. This time was different and I was introduced to all the locals’ favorite beaches that the visitors either don’t know about, or are unwilling to walk far enough to reach. On the way back to Charleston, we stopped at Darien to check on the shrimp trawler fleet. Some remain, but not nearly as many as there were years ago.

Savannah, GA from the Air

Savannah, GA and the Savannah River

My passion for a few years now has been aerial photography, and not using a drone but rather shooting from a helicopter. It is challenging and exhilarating all at the same time, and this trip was no exception. Having covered pretty much all of Charleston and the surrounding area, my plan was to extend my library of aerials to include our sister city, Savannah GA. It is a long way to fly in an R22 and the route had to be carefully planned around fuel stops and airspace rules. Holy City Helicopters came through magnificently and Kyle, my skilled and patient pilot was more than up to the task. It was a 3+ hour flight and we got back after dark. I have over 1,600 images to sort through and edit from Rockville, Seabrook, Edisto, Hunting Island, Pritchards Island, Hilton Head, Daufuskie Island, Tybee Island and then all the way back. It will take me awhile, but I will post more from time to time as I go.
